Rust Ramble


Outdoor art at the Quarry Art Centre.

The Outdoor Art Rust Ramble is an outdoor extension of the established and renowned Yvonne Rust Gallery - this community art gallery has been at the hub of the Quarry Arts Centre since its founding in 1982 and is now sprawling the artistic talents displayed within outdoors. 

Nestled into the bush clad hills on the edge of Whangarei Central Business District the Quarry grounds lends itself perfectly to an outdoor art ramble. With remains from the original Waldron’s Quarry, unique garden surroundings, lawns, unusual buildings and even an ambient waterfall the Quarry Rust Ramble is lovely to wander around and enjoy the artistic creations of sculptors and artists.

All works included in the Rust Ramble are for sale and more information about the works and artists can be found in the Rust Ramble plaques or in the map available from the Quarry Arts Centre Office or Co-Op shop.

The purpose of the Rust Ramble is to exhibit large scale and outdoor works made by the hands of artists enriching the Quarry Art Centre grounds and building a platform for outdoor artist to display their work.

Selection:
  • Sculptors and artists are invited to submit works to be considered for inclusion in the Rust Ramble.
  • Works of any style, size, price and all mediums will be taken into consideration.
  • Works must be robust, weather tight and safe as they will be displayed in a public environment.
  • Artists are welcome to submit a single work or a group of works.
  • The Quarry reserves the right to make a final decision on the inclusion of works into the Rust Ramble.

Location:
  • The Quarry Arts Centre will be happy to consider requests from artist to have their work on other locations or install site specific work. However the Quarry Art Centre reserves the right to make the final decision on sculpture placement.

 Sales:
  • The Quarry Art Centre will take 25% commission on the sale of works on display at the Quarry Art Centre.

 Security and insurance:
  • The Quarry Arts Centre has public liability insurance but insurance of the individual works are the responsibility of the artists.
  • Upon notification of selection artist will need to discuss with the installation requirements of art works. These may need to fastened for security.

Recognition and promotion:
  • Whenever possible the Quarry Art Centre will promote all artists involved in the Rust Ramble.
  • When possible photos of individual works will be credited to the artist.
  • The Rust Ramble map will include the location of all sculptures and include the name, artist, price and materials of each art work. Artist will also have the opportunity to include their web address.

Transport:
  • Transportation of works to the site and removal of unsold works are the responsibility of the artist. For works that are sold removal is the responsibility of the buyer.

 Submission of entries: Please fill out the entry form below and include it with your proposal. The proposal should consist of:
  • Photos/ documentation of an existing work you wish to submit - please include information about size and medium/ materials
    OR
    Drawings, plans and a description of the proposed work, a photograph if work is in progress and an image of related works.
  • A suggestion of how the work will be secured in your preferred location – please include design drawings if necessary.
