Forbes Roxburgh
Forbes Roxburgh describes his art works as an exploration of the home town. The rise and fall of the horizon, sublime coastlines and craggy rock faces often present in his paintings are evident of his growing up in the Hawke’s Bay. However, his use of vacant space and vibrant colour has echoes of the familiar, where anyone could find themselves at home. He attempts to reflect changes in society in his landscapes and he surpasses his goal. Achieving as well a semblance of Kiwiana in his paintings – elegantly discussed with paint and brush. Forbes himself carries the Kiwi-ness he captures. After stepping out of a high pressure job he decided to commit himself to being a full time artist. He is self taught and works predominantly in oil and acrylic.
Forbes can be found most days working in his studio at the Quarry Arts Centre, Whangarei, New Zealand
