7 - Axelle Faur & Peter Larsen
Painter, photographer, mixed media, installation and performance artist
Axelle works with black and white photography, acrylic painting and mixed media drawing. She creates sensual art, and invites the public to enter a space where time streches, cultural traditions mingle and the soul longs for another world where flesh and spirituality could be one.
Peter is a poet, playwright, screenwriter, performer, raconteur and head of production company “A Dubious Enterprise”. He currently writes, produces and eaches for Northland Youth Theatre and hosts the notorious “GONG” show at Butter Factory on the third Wednesday of the month.
Axelle Faur
Axelle Faur was born in Toulouse, France in 1972. She acquired solid drawing skills while at school at the Maison d’Education de la Légion d’ Honneur in Saint Denis, copying life size reproductions of classical works of nudes for hours. She then completed her Masters (hon.), (D.E.A.) in Didactology of Languages and Cultures at the Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris III in 1996.
She started her artistic career with drawing and painting and was then introduced to photography while in NZ in 1995. For ten years she built bodies of work in black and white photography entitled Maori Atua and Obscur Object of Desire, a female vision of eroticism through the mythical nature of men. (Work published in Nude Art Today, 2010)
She currently lives between Ouchamps, France and Whangarei, New Zealand, where the polynesian art of tatooing influenced her creative process. She is however keeping an eye on her homeland political scene and issues such as the place of muslim women within French society. Her recent works has evolved towards installation and performance. In opposition to Conceptual art, Axelle creates Sensual art, and invites the public to enter a space where time streches, cultural traditions mingle and the soul longs for another world where flesh and spirituality could be one.
Zizi-Lou is the pseudo Axelle uses for her work on ‚Zizis‘, an exploration of man’s parts which is always humourous, sometimes political with a tongue in cheek comment about stereotypes. She is currently working on a body of work called ‘Les precieuses Ridicules’,
Where viril members dress up with fine lace for the pleasure of the eyes.... (Work published in La Bible de l’Art Singulier, 2010)
Peter Larsen
‘The Peter Larsen’ is a poet, playwright, screenwriter, performer, raconteur and head of production company "A Dubious Enterprise". He currently writes, produces and eaches for Northland Youth Theatre, hosts the notorious "GONG" show at Butter Factory on the third Wednesday of the month, and jams joyously with fellow quarryites and associated improvisers. He has worked variously as a theatre reviewer, life model, film archivist, gallery attendant, parking attendant, second hand book peddler, barista, museum curator, exhibition designer and among other things, a reader of poetry to dementia patients. He gets work by volunteering for things he enjoys, figuring if he follows his bliss the means will arise and the rewards outweigh material concerns. If he has a philosophy, perhaps it can be summated his
ludicrous off-hand life manifesto: “Dance like a Fool. Eat like a King. Make love like an Orang-utan.”
